Team Jacob

This weekend was a big one for Twilight fans because 'New Moon' was released. I had to post about it because 'New Moon' was my favorite book of the twilight series. Want to know why? Because I like Jacob Black way better than Edward. In fact, I don't care for Edward Cullen very much at all. In the movies, I like Edward, but I don't like his personality in the books. I actually wasn't a huge fan of the first twilight book but I kept reading because of the cliff-hanger ending. I continued to read the rest of the series with hopes that Bella would eventually end up with Jacob, only to be disappointed.

I feel that I have a responsibility to explain to all of you hopeless romantics, who have been foolishly smitten by Edward, that Bella should have ended up with Jacob Black.

We all know that long-lasting, loving, and happy relationships are based on strong bonds of friendship, mutual interests, and trust. Not only do Bella and Jacob have a strong friendship, they have common interests, they have interesting conversations, they laugh together, AND they are attracted to each another. Jacob is funny, attractive, down-to-earth, young at heart, trustworthy, and caring.

Edward on the other hand is boring. He is a smooth-talking, serious, stick-in-the-mud. Their conversations never have any substance and they don't have common interests. When it comes right down to it their relationship is based off of passion and lust. I don't know about you but I wouldn't want to spend my life with a cold-skinned, sparkly, 100 year-old, ill-tempered, boring, vampire. Didn't his temper bug you in the book? Didn't you ever get the feeling that he was an insincere, quick-to-anger vampire trying to pull the wool over Bella's eyes? Most of all, if he truly loved and cared for Bella then he wouldn't have left her unprotected and heart-broken in such a cruel way. No excuses.

This is why once again Bella shows she is a poor decision maker. Jacob was always there for Bella-he never let her down, and he knew the true Bella Swan. Not to mention, she could have stayed human if she married Jacob. Why Bella chose Edward and his cheesy, empty, poetic, phrases is still a mystery to me when she could have been with Jacob. Jacob was the one she could trust, the one who would make her laugh, and the one who was her best friend.

PHEW. Now that I got that out of my system and talked some sense into you all, let's talk about a few key points from the movie...

-Edward should not have been allowed to take off his shirt in this movie. GROSS.
-I laughed so hard when Jacob took his shirt off to wipe the blood off of Bella's face when she fell.

Alright, that's all I've got. Overall it was a pretty good/entertaining movie. I enjoyed Jacob's performance. What did you think about it? Which team are you on?

24

I turned 24 a couple of weeks ago. My birthday was pretty low key, but still a good one. Saturday night we went to dinner at BJ's and I got a free birthday pazooki. Then we watched 'Confessions of a Shopoholic' because I love that movie. Sunday Niel cooked all day. He made me a yummy breakfast of scrambled eggs and chocolate chip pancakes. Niel is a way better cook than I am so I thoroughly enjoy it when he cooks. Our friends Marleen and Spencer and their girls came over for cake and ice cream. Later Steve and Kristin came over.

The lady who took our picture said to us afterwards, "I will take pictures of you two anytime-clothing optional!" Crazy Vegas people.

Lone Mountain

A few weeks ago Niel and I went on a hike to lone mountain. It is only about half a mile away from our apartment. We made the rookie mistake of taking the back trail which only goes a quarter of the way to the top. Then the trail ends leaving you to rock climb the rest the way up. On the way home we found the trail that goes to the top. I guess we will know for next time.

I found a little cave on our way up
We have been loving the fall weather here in Las Vegas. At the end of September it cooled down to about 75 degrees and was beauiful. The last couple of weeks it has been cooler; between the 50's and 60's during the day and 40's at night...perfect for outdoor activities like hiking. It gets colder here in the winter than it did in Southern California, which I like. I am able to wear my jacket, boots, and scarfs without getting hot. You see, I get the fashion benefits of winter without having to scrape the windows:)

Santa's helper

I failed to mention in my last post a side job I have started. I'm also working at Bath & Body Works for the holidays. Don't worry, I'm not burning myself out with the two jobs because I only work about 4 hours a week at Bath & Body Works. Last week, I worked my second shift and it was quite fun. The store is decked out with holiday decor and I feel like I'm working in Santa's workshop (from what I know about that). This is my 'fun' job. Trust me, I'm not working there for the pay (it is barely above min. wage) but rather for the social interaction, the fun environment, and of course the discount. {Picture of me in my work attire for your enjoyment}

Pajama day everyday

I have really fallen off the blogging band wagon as of late. There are several reasons why I haven't been blogging lately 1) Starting a new job 2) Computer problems 3) Visitors

This post will focus on reason #1...starting a new job. I am working as a short sale loan processor for a holdings company here in Vegas. The owner goes to church with us and his wife mentioned the opening to me. The best part about the job is that I get to work from home. Therefore, it is a pajama day everyday. Well, technically I usually get out of my pajamas around noon. Even though I am working from home it is still a full time job but my schedule can be flexible if needed. I am excited about the whole working from home thing after having a really inflexible job with a commute the last two years. The first week has been frustrating as my computer is not being cooperative. Our five year old laptop isn't cutting it with the various software programs I have to run. So, it looks like we might be getting a new laptop on black Friday. I have a lot to learn since I have never worked as a loan processor but learning about real estate and loans is interesting to me.

During my job hunt I was offered a job at a front desk for a medical spa but turned it down. Then I had two interviews with Allegiant Airlines for a financial analyst position but didn't get a third interview. I had two interviews with a law firm for a legal assistant and didn't get the job. Then I was offered this job...and I took it. Taking this job is a leap of faith for me since I haven't ever worked as a loan processor or on commission. But, there is potential to make some really good money, and I get to work from home. I hope it all works out for the best. All I have to say is that I am glad I'm not job hunting anymore! Job hunting + recession = not fun

White Coat

After two long years of the embarrassing "short" white coat, I got my first full-size white coat with my name on it. In the medical field, students have to wear short coats--that way nurses know when to take orders and when to give them.

There is a vicious cycle of contempt in medicine. Doctors have a tendancy to mistreat nurses. Nurses take out their frustration on students. Eventually though, the students become Doctors, and it's payback time. I don't know who started it, but the war wages on.

For me, the best part about graduating is not wearing a long coat, it is finally being able to make a choice about wearing a coat at all! Personally I feel like a tool when I wear my coat, so this goofy-looking thing is going into early retirement.

Turquoise

After my Magenta post, I was asked what other fun colors Niel is required to wear to work. Tuesday's dress code at the clinic are these awesome turquoise scrubs. I find these to be almost as comical as the magenta scrubs.

70 Dollars

What would you do with 70 dollars? It could buy you lots of things. Let's name just a few. A ticket to a Vegas show, a pair of jeans, new shoes, a trip to the grocery store, going out to eat, etc. I could go on and on...but the point I am trying to make is that $70 can go a long way. Now, let me share with you a true story...

Niel has been in need of a new haircut, so he ventured out to find a hair salon on Saturday. He decided to drive to Summerlin Center (very nice area of town) looking for a salon. After looking for a long time (according to Niel) he finally found one. When he walked in, he beheld a very posh, contemporary salon. He was quickly approached by a tall, distinguished looking man in a suit. At this point, most would stop to ask how much they charged. Nope. Niel just walked right in.

It wasn't until after the deed was done that he found out his simple haircut cost $70. I didn't know that $70 dollar haircuts existed! I haven't even spent that much on my hair ever. Since I don't highlight or dye my hair, the most I've ever spent on a single salon visit was $50. Niel gave me a hard time for paying $50 to get my haircut in CA.

Niel has had better haircuts at Great Clips than this $70 job. We both decided it looks like a $15 haircut. What do you think? Worth 70 bucks? At least Niel learned a lesson from this experience:

"When a French man in a suit named Emanuel asks you to de-robe for a haircut, get out of there before it's too late."- Niel

Sore loser

The poll for the pumpkin carving contest closed with a total of 22 votes. Most of my readers didn't vote...come on guys...I expected more out of you. Anyways, here are the final results:

12 votes: "The Black Cat"
10 votes: "Skully"
"The Black Cat" had the majority vote which means that...Niel is the winner! His secret ploy to trick my friends into voting for the wrong pumpkin worked liked a charm. I promise I'm not a sore loser...
