The Oscars

Last Tuesday night I was in charge of Young Women in Excellence. I chose the theme to be "Night at the Oscars". When I was in Young Womens they did this theme for young women in excellence and it was one of my favorite activities. I made the invitations and the "Oscars". I found the figurines for a quarter each at the dollar store. Then I spray painted them gold to look like oscars. They turned out perfect because it looks like the oscar girl is holding scriptures! Of course I didn't forget the red carpet:)The girls and their parents were encouraged to dress up semi-formal. I squeezed into my old homecoming dress. I asked Niel and Camden (a little boy in our ward) to be our servers. Camden showed up in a little tux with a bow tie. First they served hors d'oeuvres which included: quiche, chips & salsa, hot dogs in a blanket, crackers with spinach dip, and crackers with cheese. Here are our handsome servers:
After appetizers the girls talked about their achievements throughout the year. Next the bishop and his wife spoke for a few minutes. Then all the young women sang, "Keepers of his light". After that I presented the girls with their oscars. It was a fun night. I wish I had more pictures of the girls but I was running around before and during the program so I didn't get a chance to take pictures until after the program. I was very relieved when the program was over!

Wow Darc! This sounds like such a great calling for you. The girls are so lucky to have you and I bet they just love you. I LOVE your hair by the way and I'm glad you had a great birthday!

Darci, you are THE COOLEST Young Womens leader ever! What an awesome night! I am so, so impressed with your skills. And the "Oscars" look so cool - for only 25 cents! Props to you. I wish I could have been there!
